Zoe à la Halte Garderie

Zoe now attends the Halte Garderie (daycare / playschool) twice a week, it is her third week this week and the hassle of getting her registered seems worthwhile although they still haven't told me how much it will cost, they have to do a coeffient which is based on James salary and social security number - I think.  Most people at the English speaking playgroup pay less than 1,50 Euro an hour so it's incrediably cheap, subsidised by the government to keep women in work and spewing out babies! I'm already too old to attempt 'Mother of the Year' an award for having atleast 10 children!

Zoe basically loves the toys - 2 slides and another one indoors. A sand pit which she was telling me the name of "Saab" (like the car make, I don't know how to spell it) when I collected her last week, we were thinking of getting one for her birthday but we dont need to now as she can use it there, the same goes for a wendy house, trikes, scooters and bikes!  I have yet to see a swing in France - so we are hoping to get that for her birthday!
The teacher told me that Zoe likes to play outside, she gets very excited when she comes down the stairs to go out to play. When I can book a morning session they play for an hour indoors and then an hour outside, which I think is fantastic.  I have to book the following weeks session "7 days in advance not 8" although I have been allowed special permission to do this in person :-)

....and then there is the student teacher called Elodie, basically Zoe has replaced me with Elodie for the few hours each week & gets her to hold her hand while she shows her things and to give her cuddles. I don't know what will happen when she leaves at the end of the term, it is then closed for the whole month of August, so I don't know what I will do to keep her entertained after that!

Alot of people take August off work in France and spend a month on holiday at the coast, doesn't this sound divine - one day! I think the weather is too hot to do anything by then. Unfortunitly James will be in work as he needs to take his holiday in September as that when we are having our very exciting holiday - two weeks in the UK!!! Which is called Royaume-Uni in French (useful postcard tip).

Zoe is however struggling with the change, she doesn't speak if I'm not with her at the Halte Garderie, perhaps she is like James and thinks it's rude to speak English to a French person and she doesnt have the words yet? She also has been attention seeking at home, running to the top of the stairs and screaming until I go to find her, at first I tried ignoring her but she raised the stakes & screamed louder - I lost that battle!  Last time she came home, waited until we came through the front door then collapsed on the floor crying "au revior mummy". She spent the rest of the day hitting me & so I gave her time outs all day and then afterwards when I was saying say sorry for hitting Mummy she's give me another whack - obviously not sorry! So another two minutes!
It's hard for me to punish her when I can understand why she is acting in this very unusual way but she is being naughty and I will win the war! Its worth it as I know she enjoys the time she spends there so much.

Points to remember:
1. Never attempt to hand in forms without making an appointment to do so, this can be made by phone or email not in person!
2. They will call her ZoA no matter how many times I call her ZoeeE very loudly in front of them.
